Klement warned Türkiye was 'not at peak strength'. Paraguay's 1–0 win in the 2nd minute knocked them out before the second matchday was over.

What Klement Predicted
Klement gave Türkiye a 59% top-2 probability and projected them through to the Round of 16 — but flagged the call with a hedge: “First WC since 2002. Not at peak strength but edges Iran in the R32, then loses to Argentina in the R16.” That “not at peak strength” is doing a lot of work.
What Actually Happened
Matias Galarza scored in the second minute. Türkiye spent the next 88 minutes failing to break a Paraguay defensive shape. End of tournament. Klement's R16 prediction for Türkiye is already dead — but in a way that vindicates rather than embarrasses the model.
The Model Was Half-Right
The strict reading: Klement projected Türkiye to the R16, they went out in the group stage. Wrong call. The full reading: he explicitly flagged the team as below peak and gave them only a 59% top-2 chance — i.e. a 41% chance of going out in the group. 41% probability events happen four times out of ten. This one happened.
That's the difference between a probabilistic model and a binary prediction. Klement's bracket reads as deterministic for layperson consumption, but the underlying probabilities are clearly conditional — and Türkiye's exit sits well inside the model's confidence interval.
The Paraguay Side of the Story
Klement gave Paraguay 37% top-2 — “outsider in Group D.” They're currently second in Group D and through to the R32. The model under-priced them, but only by one slot. Where the model is now clearly wrong is the assumed Group D top-two (Australia + Türkiye, both gone or going). Paraguay was a tier-4 weak team in Klement's framework — they're playing like a tier-3 mid side.
